Burnished Silver Eagles
Burnished Silver Eagles were introduced by the United States Mint in 2006 as an additional collectible version of the popular series. The coins typically carry lower mintages than either the bullion or proof versions.
The US Mint also refers to the coins as "collectible uncirculated." Each coin is struck on a specially burnished blank and carries the "W" mint mark. For 2006, 2007, and 2008, the US Mint sold the coins individually or within separate sets. After a two year gap, the offering was resumed in 2011.
